About
Nytshadow Formatting was born as an idea after I had independently published twelve books using methods I had garnered from working for over thirty years in corporate and government publications offices, as well as running my own graphics and web design company. I no longer do web design, but I still dabble in graphic design and enjoy creating images for my own use, particularly in my books.
After years of reading the posts of other indie authors on social media who struggled with formatting their own books or affording expensive formatting services, I decided I would lend my own expertise to help them in a budget-friendly way. Believe it or not, I do all my formatting in MS Word because I've used the program since its inception and am comfortable with all the features it provides. I worked in a large corporate proposal office for many years where we used Adobe Pagemaker (now InDesign) for our layouts, but I've found I can do everything I did with that in Word. Why complicate a process when I already have a tried and true system?
My main focus is print formatting, but I do offer simple ebook formatting as well. I don't do images in ebooks because of one simple reason: dark mode. When a reader selects dark mode on their device, all those pretty images you entered into your file suddenly stand out with white backgrounds. And unfortunately, epub files do not yet support transparency, so using transparent pngs for images is out.
If you've struggled with formatting your book and have a limited budget for services, please give me a try. I would love to work with you to bring your vision to life, whether that be simple formatting or something more elaborate. Life is too short for boring books.
